ERIC BOYER — Sculpture has evolved in my life through the coincidence of several factors. Prominent among these is a natural visual and tactile pleasure at manipulating materials, often found objects, into things of beauty or function. I believe many among us seek a form of immortality by creating objects or even institutions that will outlive us. That's a factor too. In describing my sculptures of the human figure, which are the focus of my artistic work, a scientific interest in human physiology must also be considered.
It is the confluence of these factors and the joys of innovation that result in a wire mesh sculpture. Innovation because there are so few artists working the material in this way to pass on technical knowledge that one has to be largely self-taught.
